Crossbills, Mere Sands NR, 17/2/09.

A couple of hours this afternoon at Mere Sands
Nature Reserve in search of the Crossbills that have
eluded me on my two previous visits. So thankfully
it was third time lucky and views were had of 4 of
6 birds present, 2 males and 2 females.

Waxwings, Chorley, 16/2/09.

I've visited these trees in Chorley town centre
up to 4 times a week since last November on
the strength that maybe Waxwings would drop
in. So it was a nice surprise that 3 months later 2
birds actually did appear.

...this isn't a finch

A good 'finch' day in the garden today with 5

Waxwings, Heywood, 31/1/09.

Photographing Waxwings in dull light just does
not do them justice. Around 30 birds were present.
Many thanks to the house owner which I think
was Mike Cooper (Manchester Birding) for allowing us
into his garden to watch these birds.
